We are proud to announce that the world renowned bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel will headline the first night of the festival.

He has performed in all the great opera houses of the world. Bryn is also known for his versatility as a concert performer with highlights ranging from the ceremony of the Wales Millennium Centre, BBC Last Night of the Proms, to the Royal Variety Show.

In 2003, Sir Bryn Terfel received a CBE for his services to Opera and in 2006 was awarded the Queen’s Medal for Music. He is a Grammy, Classical Brit and Gramophone Award winner. Bryn also starred in the commemorative Aberfan Memorial Charity Concert in 2016, which was held in Cardiff for the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster.

Bryn will be performing several of his classical pieces as well as a popular programme of music from some of the most celebrated shows.

The BSO Concert Orchestra – We are very pleased to welcome back the BSO after their successful appearances at the festival last year. They have over 300 recordings to their name since pioneering beginnings in 1914. In 2013 our very own local BSO became Classic FM’s Orchestra in the South of England and continues to give regular live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3. The BSO Concert Orchestra has been specially selected to accompany Bryn Terfel

Gareth Jones - began his conducting career in 1990 as a member of the Music Staff at Welsh National Opera. Highlights of his achievements in 2015 included the BBC Proms in the Park with the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, and a semi-staged concert performance of Tosca at the Wales Millennium Centre with Sir Bryn Terfel and the Orchestra and Chorus of Welsh National Opera. Gareth Jones will be conducting the BSO Concert Orchestra for us on this special evening.

Lauren Fagan - Australian soprano Lauren Fagan is a recent graduate of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden where she has attracted significant attention over the past two seasons in her mainstage performances

Escala - String Quartet

Special Guests - Escala

Our special guests on this Classical Spectacular will be Escala. This all female string quartet formed in 2005 when they were part of the string section on an arena tour with McFly. They entered Britain's Got Talent where they reached the final in May 2008 and signed a major contract with Simon Cowell for their first album ‘Escala’. The album includes a diverse range of tracks including Led Zeppelin's Kashmir featuring Slash on guitar, Robert Miles' Children, Handel's Sarabande and Ennio Morricone's Chi Mai. New arrangements of Karl Jenkins' Palladio and Paul McCartney's Live & Let Die are also on the album.
